2021 Hopper Scholarship for STEM Majors Original Copy

Purpose:
Houston Christian University is pleased to announce a new scholarship opportunity for students, recognizing a pioneer of computer science and military service, Rear Admiral Grace M. Hopper, PhD, by establishing the Grace Hopper Scholarships and Hopper Fellows Program.

This fund is established through a generous gift from Mr. Holly Frost and Ms. Kathaleen Wall. Mr. Frost is an entrepreneur who created one of the earliest and most successful computer memory companies. Scholarship recipients will demonstrate Dr. Hopper’s persistence, technical knowledge and selfless service as students in Computer Science, Cyber Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics at HCU.

Eligibility Requirements for Hopper Fellows:

• Full-time new and current students majoring in Computer Science, Cyber Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Math or Chemistry;
• Graduates from a High School located in Texas;
• Students who express an intention to work in Texas for at least three years post-graduation;
• Students who have accepted or participated in a summer internship program or engaged in significant STEM-related extracurricular activities with their high school (ie. Robotics Club).

• Academic merit
  • ​​​​SAT score of at least 1200 or ACT score of at least 25 for first-time students
    • If SAT or ACT scores or not available, please include a high school transcript that includes college-preparatory science and mathematics courses. We will calculate your GPA based only on these courses.
  • GPA in Science and Engineering courses for continuing students of at least 3.2
• Willingness to live on campus
• Willingness to participate in COSE affiliated activities.

• Full-time new and current students majoring in Computer Science, Cyber Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Math or Chemistry;
• Graduates from a High School located in Texas;
• Students who express an intention to work in Texas for at least three years post-graduation;
• Students who have accepted or participated in a summer internship program or engaged in significant STEM-related extracurricular activities with their high school (ie. Robotics Club).

    • If SAT or ACT scores are not available, please include a high school transcript that includes college-preparatory science and mathematics courses. We will calculate your GPA based only on these courses.
  • GPA in Science and Engineering courses for continuing students of at least 2.75

Requirements to Receive Scholarship Once Awarded:

• All first-time freshmen scholarship recipients must have submitted the enrollment deposit.
• All scholarship recipients (current and first-time freshmen) will be required to write an essay to the foundation after receiving the scholarship.
